WCBS-TV/WLNY-TV, Director of News Operations and New Technology

Peter McGowan serves as director of news operations and new technology at WCBS-TV and WLNY-TV, a position to which he was recently promoted. Previously, McGowan served as the news operations manager when he joined the television station in 2004. In addition to his daily responsibilities in the news and operations departments, McGowan oversees the station’s popular Drone Force 2 and Mobile2 initiative.

In 2010, McGowan was credited with being among the first to effectively utilize bonded cellular technology (which was still 3G at the time) in Mobile2 allowing the vehicle to simultaneously broadcast HD images while in motion. McGowan routinely heads up the stations major field operations, especially and including major planned and breaking news events.

Prior to joining CBS 2, McGowan spent eight years at WNBC-TV New York, where he served as the station’s assignment editor prior to being named assignment manager. McGowan oversaw WNBC’s news desk during 9/11, among other major New York City news events of that time period.

Previously, McGowan worked as an assignment editor in Washington D.C. at Fox News Channel, which he joined in 1995, prior to the channel’s on-air launch in 1996. McGowan began his broadcast career as an intern and production assistant with WCBS Newsradio 880, CBS Network radio, and the CBS Network morning show. He also worked as a desk assistant with WPIX news department and served as an assignment manager.
